MAGU Vario Roller Shutter Box

Roller Shutter and Venetian Blind Boxes—our specialty for more than 60 years!

Sun protection, privacy protection, and thermal insulation are inextricably linked to roller shutter and venetian blind boxes.

As early as the 1950s, Max Gut began designing and manufacturing economical components for the concealed mounting of roller shutters.

The Günthner family took over MAGU in the late 1970s and is now running the company in its third generation.
Thermal insulation requirements, in particular, have evolved significantly in recent years.

More than 30 years ago, MAGU already offered a wide range of highly thermally insulated building components.

Today, we can look back on a long history and experience gained from producing several million roller shutter boxes, as well as a wide range of functional, practical, and cost-effective solutions in the fields of all types of roller shutter boxes, thermal insulation, and concrete formwork.

On the following pages, we showcase various installation scenarios as examples. If you’re looking for customized solutions, we’d be happy to work with you to bring your specific vision to life—put us to the test.
It is precisely the hidden components that often remain in use for the entire lifespan of a house. That is why we pay particular attention to these areas in terms of functionality and building physics requirements.

We specialize exclusively in high-quality, durable, highly insulated, yet cost-effective components for your construction project.

This philosophy is reflected in all of our products. We use only cost-effective, economical, and resource-efficient materials in our manufacturing process.

We generate some of the energy we need ourselves using renewable sources. Nevertheless, our components last ‚a lifetime.‘ Without exception, our components are resistant to moisture, water, and mold—a fundamental requirement for lifelong functionality.

MAGU Roller Shutter Box - Eliminating Weak Points

Despite all the advantages that roller shutters offer, the design of previous roller shutter boxes had significant structural weaknesses. In principle, we can distinguish between two types of older-generation roller shutter boxes:
With the front-mounted system, the roller shutter box is mounted on the window frame.

However, the window frame is usually the weakest component of a building.

Visually, the wider body kit usually takes some getting used to.
Although the classic masonry box provides significantly better thermal insulation, it usually has a problem with the wind-tight seal.

For example, insulating and sealing the interior access panel poses problems.
The MAGU Vario MGS comes fully assembled and ready for direct installation on the masonry. When used with an ETICS system, the box initially protrudes beyond the masonry and is then covered with the full thermal insulation.

The MAGU Vario MGS is permanently sealed on the room side, thereby providing optimal, permanent thermal insulation between the interior and the cold outside air.

The exterior access opening still provides enough space for easy roller shutter installation, even with the roll-off profile.
MAGU roller shutter boxes reduce heat loss through windows by up to 45% when the roller shutters are closed.
MAGU roller shutter boxes offer the best thermal insulation, even for passive houses or KFW 40 homes.

Innovation in Every Detail—the MAGU Roller Shutter Box

The new MAGU Vario IV is available in a wide variety of models. Whether closed on the room side, designed for venetian blinds or roller shutters, and suitable for a wide range of wall thicknesses, this patented roller shutter box system is characterized by its endless variety. Thanks to the unique combination of Neopor and XPS, all boxes offer extreme stability and maximum cost-effectiveness.

MAGU Vario Roller Shutter and Venetian Blind Boxes: Many Installation Options and Features

The MAGU roller shutter box is offset from the masonry, allowing for a 5 cm or 10 cm support surface when using a belt drive.

In the case of external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS), the box protrudes outward and is later clad with the ETICS system.
The load-bearing lintel is placed over it and poured with concrete.

The window roller shutter system is installed on-site in the roller shutter box after the structural work is complete.

As a general rule, all Vario roller shutter and venetian blind boxes are plastered over with the masonry or the ETICS system after installation.
